2017

Dang, 2017 went by ridiculously fast, I can't believe it's already time to fill another one of these out!

While I can't say I'm unhappy with my artwork like I was back in 2015, I don't feel like I really improved anywhere in regards to my style. But at the same time I'm very happy with the amount of backgrounds I was able to put out this year. Back before 2017 I would have laughed if you'd told me I'd be making more than 2 backgrounds a year, all for Secret Santas, but looking back and seeing how many backgrounds I was able to get done this year fills me with happiness and new confidence going forward. 

2017 also happened to be "The year of ARPGs", I joined both and and felt more inspired to worldbuild than I have in a very long time. (Granted I've been in Tokotas longer, but I haven't drawn for it until this year) And I'm so excited to share all the ideas I have with y'all in 2018, I really want to buckle down and start drafting both my Tokotas story and Ilirium's story, start getting those worked on, and start pumping out artwork for both. I've been so happy to have the opportunity to be apart of both of these wonderful communities, while I'm more on the quiet side in both, I've met so many nice people this year and I'm thankful for each and every one of you that have reached out to me to talk to me, comment, or just be a friendly fellow. It means the world to me!

2017 was also the year I fell in love with cartooning again, it's always been a part of my style but I never felt like I had any direction with it. Bendy and the Ink Machine and Cuphead both came out this year and really aided in the kick start of my drive to draw and my adoration of old 30's cartooning. They both made me re-discover my love for the style and how I could push myself to loosen up my own style sometime. It's made me embrace the cartoony-ness of my style more and that's now branched off to become what is now my Chibi style (which has been loads of fun this year). This was also the year I got to see Moana for the first time, and along with Bendy and Cuphead they all heavily inspired me to pick up the pencil again and focus on making art a career, and to green light the dream of learning animation again. In hindsight I think 2017 was a year I re-captured a lot of feelings that inspired me to become an artist in the first place. 

For 2018 I want to become more disciplined with my scheduling, I felt so in control in May when I had a schedule and I was determined to stick to it. Even though it all fell apart in June it doesn't mean I can't try again, so come January I'll be setting up a schedule and a routine, and hopefully having more artwork to produce from it! Tokota icons will be opening up first Friday of January and I'm determined to make those a constant for every weekend. I also want to become more comfortable uploading things like sketches, WIPs, and generally being more active and involved with y'all. It makes me so happy to be able to talk to all of you so I'll try my best to be around more and not let pesky down times get in the way again. I also want to work more on my lighting, more backgrounds, humans, and of course my own personal world building: "Tales from Triuncona". The latter has been on back burner for so long that I've lost a bit of my confidence uploading it, but I miss all my headworld characters and I'm determined to start bringing them back!
